We Sponsored a College Football Team

It’s official: this fall, the Snapback Sports logo will be on all Sam Houston Football jerseys.

If you’ve read this newsletter or followed the journey on social, you know this has been a wild ride.

From being told by MMR partners that we would NEVER be able to do this, to a potential deal with Rice falling through at the last minute, to ending up having a choice of which school we’d partner with.

In today’s newsletter, I’ll break down every step of the process, what this means for Snapback and another MAJOR announcement.

The backstory

Last July, it was rumored that LSU was going to pursue a jersey patch sponsorship.

I thought that Snapback, given our storytelling ability and content creation, would be a great partner for schools.

In today’s landscape of college sports, there’s a lot of noise and storytelling and content is a way to breakthrough that noise.

So, I publicly pursued a jersey patch sponsorship.

We even got a verbal agreement from ECU but the NCAA ended up not approving jersey patches for last season.

Then, on January 23rd of this year, the NCAA approved on uniform sponsorship.

I re-launched my campaign and here’s what the last 7 months have entailed.

7 months

February and March: I took meetings from the hospital (waiting for our baby to come) with UTSA, UTEP, and ULM.

As I tried to get a sense for the market, it was clear that those schools were as well.

We had good conversations as they understood the value Snapback would bring in addition to cash but no one wanted to bite.

They felt that more $$$ could be out there for them.

The other reason these schools were holding the line was because their MMR holders were telling them they were worth more.

Throughout the newsletter, you will feel the tension I have towards these MMR holders.
